Rizal poured his heart and soul into the Fili's exploration of the morality of subversion in the face of injustice and oppression. This recording maintains the same bright humour and easy style. Grant did not neglect to also record this more obscure masterpiece following his wonderful performance of the Noli. It was therefore a delight to discover that Richard E. The Fili, its sequel, is far less well known, though in my opinion it is an even greater work: richer, deeper, more emotional, more focused, and more dramatic. A wonderful performance of an underrated gemĮvery Filipino knows Noli Me Tangere, Rizal's classic book which inspired a revolution, though in truth it deserves a global audience.
